Located on part of the estate in Worcestershire which was formerly a gravel quarry, Sandmartins was so named after we saw these beautiful birds nesting within mounds of extracted sand from previous quarrying operations. The extraction has left some depressions within the landscape which are providing new rich wetland habitats for flora, fauna and wildlife.

Creating a new base for a dynamic and diverse farmstead operation
Central to the brief was the requirement for an exceptional new paragraph 84 house to function effortlessly alongside a busy working farmyard with machinery & tractors tracking through every day.

An important aspect of the brief for this project was to ensure that a new exceptional paragraph 84 dwelling could be enjoyed alongside functioning as a new working base for the farm.
A contemporary paragraph 84 working farmstead
Located alongside a large private lake, Sandmartins presents an exceptional quality working farmstead at the heart of a highly successful rural operation. Quite bizarrely, despite such a large estate having so many business functions working alongside each other, the farm lacks a proper base for the family to live, organise and operate this bustling enterprise.

The scheme is benefitting from engagement with The Design Review Panel who are ensuring that the rigour of the brief is followed through into the proposals. These series of diagrams have been developed to communicate the various functional components of the farm in terms of functional layout & mechanics as well as each material element having its own unique purpose & identity whilst maintaining a consistent vision for the entire farm.
