Para 84 (Formerly Para 55)

Quarry House

The design narrative for this Paragraph 84 house celebrates the principal defining characteristic of the site, a semi-circular lens shaped former quarry.

New Build

An inspirational, sustainable, energy efficient family home

West Berkshire Council Approved this paragraph 84 scheme, which is set within the North Wessex Downs National Landscape (formerly AONB) on 10th May 2018

The location of the 770m² passive house completes the circle, naturally containing a more controlled garden. The natural character of the landscape outside the quarry is left to naturalise, creating a contrast between the two landscaped spaces.

The curved building enjoys wide views across a diverse landscape and has been optimised to capture south facing solar gain. The north side of the house is articulated and angled to shield itself from the noise of a distant motorway and the entrance becomes a series of conceal and reveal experiences, slowly uncovering one unexpected surprise after another.
